Privacy.

If you accept cookies, we use Google Analytics 4 to see how the site is being read. That records things like which pages you visited and in what order, roughly where in the world you are (country or city level, from your IP address), what kind of device and browser you used, and how you arrived here.

We don't ask for your name or email, there are no accounts for readers, and we don't try to work out who you are. We don't run ads and we don't sell or share this data with anyone else.

Analytics data is sent to and processed by Google, including on servers in the United States. That means it leaves your country and is handled under US law as well as Google's own terms. Google's handling of it is described in their privacy policy and in how Analytics uses data.

If you'd rather block it everywhere, Google publishes a browser opt-out add-on.

On your first visit you get a banner with Accept and Reject. Nothing loads until you pick. If you reject, or close the page without choosing, Google Analytics is never loaded at all — no script, no cookies, no data sent.

Your choice is stored in your own browser's local storage so the banner doesn't reappear. It isn't tied to an account and it never leaves your device. You can change it here at any time:

Editors sign in to an admin area to review entries; that uses a session cookie and is necessary for the site to work, so it isn't part of the cookie choice above. If you send us a report about an entry, we keep what you typed and the source link you gave, so we can check the figure. We don't reply to reports individually.

Questions, corrections, or a request to delete something you sent us: use the report form on any entry page and say so plainly.
